Bronchial Asthma Treatment
Although there is no cure for asthma, effective management is available for preventing attacks
and controlling and ending attacks soon after they have begun.
There are two main types of medicines for bronchial asthma treatment.
Two of out naturally existing hormones are building the foundation of some commonly used drugs that can help to
treat asthma. These hormones are adrenaline (epinephrine for USA) and hydrocortisone (which is a steroid).
Bronchial Asthma Treatment for Quick Relief:
In case of sudden fright or emergency adrenaline (epinephrine) is naturally poured into our
bloodstream. This hormone readies the body for emergency action by making the pulse race and the heart thump.
These so called relievers, should be taken when asthma symptoms are
worsening. They give rapid, short-term treatment and you will experience the effects of these medicines within minutes.
Bronchial Asthma Treatment for Long-Term Control:
The most powerful asthma preventer among the steroids is called hydrocortisone. Just like the adrenaline
above it is also acting partly as an hormone for emergencies. The difference between the two is that hydrocortisone is working much slower but
therefore for a longer period. Medicines based on the way hydrocortisone acts allow the lining of air tubes to become normal. This results in
less severe asthma attacks and should avoid getting an attack at all if works to its fullest extend.
These so called preventers, must be taken every day, in general
over long periods of time. They are needed to control the chronic symptoms and to prevent asthma episodes or attacks. The full effects of
these preventers will be noticed after taking them for several weeks. Long-term control medicines are unavoidable for people that
suffer from persistent asthma.
If you suffer from mild asthma these or similar drugs are able to eventuelly remove all your symptoms. In case of a
severe or long-standing asthma the results my not be as favorable and alternate medications might be neccessary.
Preventers a well as relievers both should be used by most people who suffer from asthma. Asthma treatments
normally are inhaled through nose or mouth. That way less of the medicine is needed, the side effects are reduced and the medicine can work
quickly, which is especially important with fast-acting adrenaline-like relievers.
The advantage of the hydrocortisone-like steroids in bronchial asthma treatment is that you they can be
biodegradable inside your body if you chose the appropriate ones. This enables the liver to break them down to avoid side effects without lessen
the positive work they can do for the lung.
